The Emergence of ISO 27001 Certification

July 09, 2015

Many organizations will hold important information whether financial, intellectual, confidential. ISO published ISO/IEC 27001 in 2005, since revised and updated in 2013 as the set of requirements for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS). We can see more and more various security breaches that have occurred with various well known brands who held important financial or personal data for their customers which ended up being stolen. This all only adds to the emphasis that is being placed on information security and pressure from clients to ensure such organizations take all necessary steps to keep such information secure. An Information Security Management System, the ‘systematic’ approach is one such way to assist organ…

ISO 9001:2015 – An Expert Insight

May 09, 2015

The reluctance to ignore the reality of the global environment allows organizations, consultants and Certification Bodies/Registrars the opportunity to ignore the link between Quality and the everyday business operational activities. ISO Standards were created to add value and benefits to organization’s who adopt them ISO standards certainly have the ability to add value, however to add value it requires the organization to consider a number of key issues, namely: The needs and expectations of its stakeholders and to develop a framework to prioritize these needs and expectations Quality like finance needs to be an integral part of the organization’s strategic/ or business plan The organization needs …

Why ISO 14001 Certification?

May 09, 2015

Why control emissions to the environment? Why regulate emissions to water air and soil? Why bother with heritage and the environmental impacts of developments? Why conserve water and energy? Why protect the soil, surface water and groundwater? Why manage the already very limited drinking water sources? The main reason for behaving responsibly in relation to environmental protection is to conserve the earth’s resources for present and future generations and to manage these resources in a sustainable way thereby lowering impacts on soil, water and the atmosphere. The current and increasing rate of use of the earth’s resources is clearly not sustainable. We will run out of oil eventually. The ever increasing use of coal in Ch…

Why OHSAS 18001 Certification?

May 09, 2015

It has often been said that we don’t miss the water until the well runs dry and similarly if there is an accident and the proper controls are not in place, we will forever regret not having carried out the risk assessment and installed the controls: the risk assessment wasn’t missed until the fatality or serious injury occurred. One hardly needs to be reminded one year on, of the collapse of the 8 storey garment factory in Bangladesh (Rana Plaza) killing 1135 workers and injuring 2500 others, simply because the operators/owners did not take their responsibilities in relation to the health and safety of their employees, contractors, sub-contractors, seriously. Neither did the customers of check if the conditi…

Is your ISO 9001 Management System working for you?

May 09, 2015

Are you working for your management system or is it working for you? Or to put it another way, its 3 days until your surveillance audit is due and you have ‘nothing done for the audit’, does this sounds familiar to you? If the answer is ‘yes’ – that means you are working for your management system and this is not the way it’s supposed to be. Simply put, your ISO 9001 Quality Management System should be working for you, specifically it should be helping you in generating new business, retaining current business and improving your company’s performance. If it isn’t doing that then you’re wasting your hard earned money in trying (and failing) to maintain it! Symptoms of when it’s not working include wh…

OHSAS 18001 Overview – What is it all about?

May 09, 2015

The Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series Standard, OHSAS 18001 is the worldwide recognized system that a company can use to manage the safety, health and welfare of their employees and others who may be on their site or under their control from time to time such as contractors, in to complete some machine servicing, and visitors, calling in for a meeting or similar activity. As OHSAS 18001 is a standard, it requires you to look at safety, health and welfare in your company in a systematic way, or in simpler terms, identify what are the hazards and risks associated with your activities, what controls have you in place, what are the potential emergency situations that could arise hand and how would you handle them.

Why ISO Essentials™ for ISO 9001 Certification?

March 25, 2015

At the core of Kelmac Group Consulting is that we provide a service that performs beyond certification. Those are two keywords I would like to emphasise – performing & going beyond. What real value exists in having a system that is not performing for the ‘business’ and is only a continual cost? Very little. Unfortunately, we live in a world where in some cases, the market we operate in and hold dear has by some been reduced to a commodity where it is a fee for an ISO 9001 certificate rather than ‘how can ISO 9001 help my business beyond certification?’, ‘how can we have a management system that will perform as business focused initiative to improve and enhance our business?’. There are many such questions one should …

March 25, 2015

Our History with ISO 22000 (now FSSC 22000) To date, we have delivered ISO 22000 training in over 15 countries and our training classes have been translated into Arabic, Spanish, Turkish as well as being available in English. We hold the title of the oldest IRCA approved training provider of ISO 22000 in the world. In fact, in the early years, we delivered approximately 20%* of IRCA recognised FSMS training programs in the world – of course, at that time, between 2005 – 2009 (*approx. – based on IRCA published annual statistics), the s…

Effective ISO 9001 Internal Auditing

March 25, 2015

This determination is made, in part, though assessment and resolution of the issues identified during the audits, but how do you know that your audits have been effective….? By conducting a review or audit of your auditing programme, you will be able to identify its strengths and weaknesses including areas for improvement. Have you ever published an audit programme for the coming business/calendar period by simply changing the date on the top of the current programme? This is one of the most common issues that an external auditor finds when reviewing a company’s auditing process. ISO 9001 requires us to take into consideration the status and importance of the areas being audited and the results of previous audit findings when w…
